Al Ittihad continues to strengthen their team this summer by signing French player Moussa Diaby from Aston Villa, an English Premier League team.

The champions of the 2022-23 Roshn Saudi League announced on Thursday that they have signed Diaby for five years. The 25-year-old midfielder went to the team’s training camp in Spain to complete the move.

“I am very happy to join Al Ittihad and be part of a team that wants to be strong and represent the club’s history and values,” Diaby said. “I look forward to working with my new teammates to win matches and make our fans happy.”

Signing Diaby is a big success for Al Ittihad. He joined Aston Villa last summer from Bayer Leverkusen for a record fee. He helped Aston Villa finish fourth in the 2023-24 Premier League, which allowed them to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Diaby played 54 games for Aston Villa under coach Unai Emery and scored 10 goals.

Al Ittihad finished fifth in the league last season and has been very busy during this transfer window. They have already signed Algerian player Houssem Aouar from AS Roma, as well as Saleh Al Shehri and Muath Faqeehi from the current champions, Al Hilal.

Al Ittihad also made permanent signings of Ahmed Al Ghamdi and Saad Al Mousa from Al Ettifaq, and they extended Hamed Al Ghamdi’s loan for another season.

On the other hand, some players have left Al Ittihad. Abderrazak Hamdallah and Haroune Camara have gone to Al Shabab, while Romarinho and Ahmed Hegazi joined NEOM, a First Division League team. Goalkeeper Marcelo Grohe, who helped win the title, has signed with RSL newcomers Al Kholood.

Al Ittihad will start their 2024-25 league season on August 24 at home against Al Ettifaq.
