Liverpool are out of the Champions League. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) won on penalties at Anfield and made history.
Before this match, no team had ever knocked Liverpool out of a European competition after Liverpool won the first game away. But PSG changed that. They won on penalties after Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones had their shots saved by PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
PSG Win After Tough Battle
Liverpool won the first game in Paris 1-0. But in this game, PSG’s Ousmane Dembélé scored early. This made the score 1-1 overall. No more goals were scored, so the game went to penalties.
How the Penalties Went
Vitinha (PSG) – Goal! 0-1 (Shot to the left)
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – Goal! 1-1 (Curled high into the net)
Ramos (PSG) – Goal! 1-2 (Low shot)
Darwin Nunez (Liverpool) – Missed! (Saved by Donnarumma)
Dembélé (PSG) – Goal! 1-3 (High into the net)
Curtis Jones (Liverpool) – Missed! (Saved by Donnarumma)
Doué (PSG) – Goal! 1-4 (Powerful shot – PSG win!)
Liverpool Were Unlucky
Liverpool had chances to score. Mohamed Salah missed two good chances. Dominik Szoboszlai scored, but the goal was offside. Jarell Quansah also hit the post with a header.

PSG played well and deserved the win. They will now play the winner of Aston Villa vs. Club Brugge in the next round.
Liverpool Focus on Other Competitions
Liverpool’s coach, Arne Slot, now has to prepare his players for the Carabao Cup final on Sunday. Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones will need to recover after missing their penalties. Two Liverpool players, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konaté, also got injured.
Liverpool are still fighting for the Premier League title, but their Champions League journey is over.
Coach Arne Slot’s Reaction
Liverpool coach Arne Slot said this was the best game he had ever been part of.
"For the first 25 minutes, we played amazing football. Over the whole game, I don’t think we deserved to lose. Over two games, maybe PSG were a little better. It is sad, but we lost against one of the best teams in Europe."
Captain Van Dijk’s Thoughts
Liverpool’s captain, Virgil van Dijk, said:
"It was a very intense game. We played very well. In Paris, we won even though we didn’t play well. Today, we played well but lost. It is disappointing."
What’s Next for Liverpool?
Many Liverpool fans are frustrated. After winning in Paris, it looked like Liverpool would reach the next round. Some people even thought they could reach the final. But now, they are out.
With the Champions League gone, Liverpool will now focus on winning the Carabao Cup and the Premier League title.
